Elderbrook Announces New Album Heart On A Wire

,and I’m Already Counting Down

There are electronic artists, and then there are artists who make you forget you’re listening to electronic music at all. Elderbrook falls firmly into the second category, which is probably why I keep coming back to his stuff like some sort of emotionally damaged algorithm.

I’ve been a fan of Elderbrook for a while, and his music sits comfortably alongside artists like RÜFÜS DU SOL and Bob Moses for me. There’s something about the combination of electronic production, organic instrumentation, vocals and atmosphere that makes his music feel less like something you simply listen to and more like somewhere you temporarily go.

His live performances are a perfect example. If you haven’t seen “Elderbrook – Live at the Aquarium” on YouTube, do yourself a favor. His Live at Red Rocks performance is another one that belongs in the category of things humans somehow managed to get right. Between the music, the visuals and the setting, it’s the kind of performance that makes you wonder why we ever settled for watching somebody stand behind a laptop and press buttons.

Now Elderbrook is preparing to take that sound into a new chapter with his upcoming album, Heart On A Wire, arriving January 22.

The album follows his 2024 release Another Touch and represents something of a return to the instincts that originally pulled him toward music. Rather than approaching the project strictly as an electronic record, Elderbrook says he wanted to embrace more of an indie-music mindset, allowing songs to develop naturally instead of forcing everything into a predetermined formula.

That approach makes sense when you look at his catalog. Tracks such as “Cola,” “Old Friend,” “Inner Bloom” and his work with Bob Moses have demonstrated his ability to build songs that can work equally well on headphones, in a club, at a festival or while you’re staring dramatically out a window pretending your life is the opening scene of an expensive Netflix series.

The Bob Moses connection has also given Elderbrook another interesting moment in the spotlight. His collaboration with the Canadian electronic duo, “Inner Light,” was selected for the closing moments of the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI trailer, giving the track another massive platform.

And now comes Heart On A Wire. The 10-track album includes collaborations with Rules and Tourist, and the first taste of the project is already here with the new single “Lost In The View.”

Elderbrook hasn’t been built around the traditional pop-star machinery, and that’s part of what makes him interesting. He’s earned a reputation through the music itself, collaborations, live performances and a growing audience that understands what he’s doing. There aren’t a bunch of unnecessary fireworks surrounding the guy. The songs are the fireworks.

And personally, I’m already waiting for January 22.

There’s also a chance I won’t have to wait nearly that long to experience the music live. Elderbrook is scheduled to perform at Hard Rock Tampa on Sunday, November 15, and considering what he can do with a live set, that’s one date I’m keeping a very close eye on.

Some artists you discover. Some artists you stumble across. And then there are artists who show up and make you wonder how the hell you didn’t find them sooner.

Elderbrook is one of those.
