Well, it finally happened — Morrissey has officially canceled his Mexico shows due to “extreme exhaustion.” The 66-year-old ex-frontman of The Smiths was scheduled to play Mexico City and Guadalajara, but apparently the universe decided he needed a nap instead.
According to promoters, the shows were scrapped last minute with refunds promised. And while we sincerely hope the guy gets back on his feet soon, maybe this is the world’s gentle way of saying, “Hey man, touring in six countries in a week might not be the best retirement plan.”
Let’s be honest — Morrissey has more cancellations than The Rolling Stones have farewell tours. From Turkey to Connecticut, it’s been a year of missed gigs, “credible threats,” and mysterious sinusitis. (Rockstars, they’re just like us — except when their version of calling out sick involves a press release.)
Still, the man remains a legend. How Soon Is Now?, There Is a Light That Never Goes Out, Suedehead — the soundtrack of melancholic cool since the ‘80s. But seriously, Moz, maybe take a page from your old band’s playbook and rest a bit. We’d all prefer a slow Smiths reunion over another “cancelled due to exhaustion” notice.
Until then, we’re rooting for a full recovery. Because if anyone’s going to prove that sadness ages well, it’s Morrissey.
