The 2026 ACM Awards rolled through Las Vegas this week with plenty of trophies, emotional speeches, rhinestones, cowboy hats worth more than my first car, and enough country music star power to power a small city.
Cody Johnson walked away with the biggest title of the night:
👉 Entertainer of the Year
He also grabbed:
- Male Artist of the Year
Meanwhile Ella Langley absolutely cleaned house with:
- Song of the Year
- Single of the Year
- Artist-Songwriter of the Year
And honestly?
Good for them.
But let me be brutally honest for a second…
🎤 Stephen Wilson Jr. Should’ve Won Everything
I don’t really care about the rest of this list.
Stephen Wilson Jr. should have won all the male awards.
There. I said it.
The man is absolutely incredible.
I don’t even know a ton about his background or history yet… but musically?
👉 Pure gold.
Hands down one of the best musicians working right now.
🎶 “Cuckoo” Deserved Every Bit of Recognition
Wilson Jr. did take home:
👉 Visual Media of the Year for “Cuckoo”
And if you’ve seen it… you already understand why.
His music has this strange mix of:
- Southern grit
- Alternative edge
- Emotional honesty
- Weirdness in the best way possible
It doesn’t sound manufactured.
Which is increasingly rare in modern country music where half the songs feel like they were written by an AI trained entirely on beer commercials and truck commercials.
🏆 Respect Where It’s Due
Now, before the angry country fans throw boots at my head digitally…
Cody Johnson absolutely deserves respect too.
The man has built a massive career through relentless touring and authentic country roots, with chart success including:
- “Til You Can’t”
- Multiple ACM wins
- Platinum-certified releases
And Ella Langley’s rise has been impressive as well.
Her song “Choosin’ Texas” became one of the breakout country tracks of the year and clearly connected with fans in a major way.
🎤 The Performances Were Packed With Talent
The ACM stage also featured performances from:
- Lainey Wilson
- Miranda Lambert
- Kacey Musgraves
- Riley Green
- Parker McCollum
- Zach Top
Basically a full night of:
👉 heartbreak songs
👉 whiskey songs
👉 revenge songs
👉 and “my truck left me” songs
Country music remains emotionally committed to chaos.

One thing that’s genuinely cool about modern country right now?
The genre is getting weirder again.
Artists like Stephen Wilson Jr. are helping blur the lines between:
- Country
- Rock
- Americana
- Alternative music
And honestly?
That evolution is badly needed.
