If Someone Can Convince Johnny to Leave his Castle
Some bands struggle to book studio time.
The Hollywood Vampires apparently just need someone brave enough to knock on Johnny Depp’s castle door.
According to Alice Cooper, the hard rock supergroup is more than ready to make another album. There’s just one small logistical issue. They have to convince one of Hollywood’s biggest stars to step away from his famously secluded lifestyle long enough to plug in a guitar.
Simple, right?
Alice jokingly summed it up best when discussing the band’s future, saying another record seems inevitable… assuming Johnny eventually wanders out of his “44-room castle.”
Honestly, if your guitarist lives in a place that sounds like it belongs in a Tim Burton movie, scheduling rehearsals probably requires more planning than a NASA launch.
The Hollywood Vampires have always been one of rock’s most fascinating side projects.
What started as a tribute to the legendary drinking club that gathered around Alice Cooper in the early 1970s has evolved into a legitimate supergroup featuring Cooper, Joe Perry of Aerosmith, guitarist Tommy Henriksen, and yes… Johnny Depp.
Did someone say Johnny Depp?
You’ve got my attention… and probably the attention of everyone else within shouting distance.
Let’s be honest.
Johnny Depp isn’t just another celebrity who decided to pick up a guitar.
He’s one of the most recognizable names in modern entertainment.
Whether you know him as George Jung in Blow, Raoul Duke in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, the unforgettable Captain Jack Sparrow throughout the Pirates of the Caribbean saga, or even Officer Tom Hanson from the television phenomenon 21 Jump Street, Depp has spent decades creating characters that became part of pop culture history.
Long before blockbuster franchises dominated Hollywood, there was already something magnetic about him.
People watched 21 Jump Street and thought, “That guy’s going somewhere.”
Turns out they were right.
Today, Depp remains one of the highest-grossing actors in film history, earning Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild honors while receiving three Academy Award nominations during an extraordinary acting career that spans more than four decades.
Music, however, has always been one of his first loves.
The Hollywood Vampires give him the opportunity to step away from movie sets and become exactly what he has always wanted to be: another guy standing on stage playing rock and roll.
And judging by his bandmates, they wouldn’t mind seeing him do it a little more often.
Joe Perry joked that people around Depp sometimes aren’t thrilled when he disappears for months to tour with the band.
That’s understandable.
When one of the biggest movie stars on Earth decides he’d rather be hauling guitar cases than filming blockbuster movies, somebody in an executive office probably starts sweating.
The band last released Rise in 2019, featuring original material that showcased the group’s chemistry beyond simply paying tribute to classic rock legends.
Since then, schedules have become increasingly difficult to coordinate.
Alice Cooper continues maintaining one of rock’s busiest touring schedules, Joe Perry remains active with Aerosmith projects, Tommy Henriksen seems to exist on every stage in America, and Johnny Depp… well… Johnny Depp is Johnny Depp.
Finding an open weekend between those calendars probably requires quantum physics.
Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait forever to see the band together.
The Hollywood Vampires return to the United Kingdom next month before continuing across Europe, bringing their unique blend of original songs and classic rock tributes to audiences eager for another night of guitar-driven mayhem.
Alice admits choosing the nightly setlist remains one of the toughest parts of every tour.
sWhen your catalog includes your own music alongside songs honoring The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Small Faces, and countless other legends, somebody is guaranteed to leave the venue wishing one more favorite had made the cut.
It’s a good problem to have.
While the Hollywood Vampires haven’t collected stacks of Grammy Awards, they’ve earned something almost as difficult in today’s music industry: respect.
Their albums have charted internationally, Rise landed on multiple rock charts around the world, and the group has built a reputation as one of the rare supergroups that feels authentic rather than manufactured. Fans don’t show up simply because of the famous names on the marquee.
They show up because Alice Cooper still commands a stage like few performers ever have.
Joe Perry remains one of rock’s greatest guitarists.
Johnny Depp genuinely loves making music.
And somehow… it all works.
I’ll admit it.
Hollywood Vampires aren’t sitting in heavy rotation on my everyday playlist.
But if this long-awaited third studio album finally happens, I’ll be first in line to give it a shot.
After all… when Johnny Depp picks up a guitar, curiosity alone is worth pressing play.
